Ocean, you better watch yourself! North Carolina has outlawed you rising…

Apparently Cnut, the famous Viking King, has nothing on North Carolina.  Both are trying to legally dictate how the OCEAN MOVES.  Yes, how the ocean moves…

In defence of Cnut, he was not actually trying to move the Ocean through legal degree, just make a point.  He went to the waterfront and commanded the tide not to rise, and that rascally ocean simply ignored him, nicely proving his point that even mighty Kings power and command is limited.

Apparently those North Carolina legislators aren’t quite so wise about the limit of their power.

Researchers are estimating that ocean levels in North Carolina will rise around 39 inches according to the North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission.  This, of course, would be a huge party pooper on the “business-of-usual climate change doesn’t matter” mentality because it would mean lots of flooded resorts and other real estate.

So a lobby group NC-20 found a solution.  Ensure that ocean level predictions are limited to using data after 1900 and do not account for ANY CHANGE IN OCEAN RISE RATES.

Yep, that’s right.  Just assume a nice linear increase of ocean levels from 1900 because after all, it’s not like anything ever changes in a non-linear way, right?

So obviously if I am 5’5″ at 18 and assume the rate of change is the same, by the time I am 40 I will be nearly 11′ tall right?

Ostrich with head in the sand, indeed!
