This last Monday, I was lucky enough to make a speech at the Grey to Green conference put on by the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
It was a great conference exposing me to many new innovative ideas in green infrastructure. It was really inspiring and refreshing to see so many ideas and initiatives – I really recommend the conference if you can make it.
As well, I heard Glen Murray speak, the new minister of environment for the Ontario Liberals. He spoke with deep concern for current sustainability issues and the need for action. Let’s hope that’s a sign that the newly mandated Ontario liberals will use their majority to begin addressing issues such as climate change and water shortages.
I made an introductory talk to introduce people to aquaponics, the basics of the technology and the current state of aquaponics. For those unfamiliar with aquaponics, I hope it gives you a more clear concept of aquaponics and the aquaponics community.
Making the presentation allowed me to catch up on research and reflect on aquaponics. I think is for a lot of important things going for it. It’s a really sustainable. It’s got a really enthusiastic community who cares about making the world a better place. And, from a personal perspective, it’s darn fun to build a system.
And in a world of increasingly limited resources (including water), I can see it being only more relevant in the future.
