Navigating the Risks of Climate Change

You’re better future…
A big part of your better future is navigating climate change….
Even though climate change is often perceived as a large-scale, slow-moving phenomenon, it’s going to be a key part of your everyday existence.
With it will come challenges… and potential opportunities…
Here is a list of some critical areas where climate change will impact your life:
  • finance – climate change will radically alter the perception and viability of many assets
  • health – climate change will affect temperatures, humidity, pests and diseases
  • livability – the amount of food, water available will change
  • security – climate change will probably introduce instability in some areas
So what can you do?
One side is obviously to help mitigate climate change but equally important is to adapt to the changes climate change will bring.
A large part will be simply aware of the challenges and avoid taking on large risks in situations, for instance, buying real estate that may be underwater in the upcoming decades.
So how does on identify the risk?  There is no perfect way and some risks are probably just unknown.
However, there are some risks that are easier to identify.  Here are a couple of examples:
-real estate – do I have property that is close to sea-level? (what happens when the sea level rises?)
-local economy – how robust are local industries to climate change?  (if a large part of the local economy is wineries, what happens when temperatures change?)
-insurance – what is the long term viability of your insurance? (if damage starts becomes frequent, how is it financially viable for insurance companies to cover it?)
